Happy Kid's Day!
When I was growing up, we celebrated Kid's Day in our family. The last day of school was the designated day. We would come home to an ice cream cake and a special summer present for each of us. It was a tradition my brother and I loved. A day just for us, to kick off our summer vacation. And it's a tradition I have passed on to my children. They love it as much as I did. The last day of school was Friday. We went to McDonald's after school and ran into some of our favorite friends. So we played and talked and ate and played some more. And then we came home and waited, very impatiently, for Jeff to come home. Presents cannot be opened until Daddy comes home, a cardinal rule. So he came home early. And presents were opened. All the boys wanted were Real soccer jerseys. A white one and a red one. Paige got a Merida dress up from Brave. She has worn it for the last 2 days. Inside, outside, on the town. She wore it to Sweet Tomatoes that night for dinner with a tiara and tinker bell shoes. It was a big hit. Sweet Tomatoes is always the restaurant of choice for the Blackminnies. Their albondigas soup and blueberry muffins are my favorite.
At dinner we went around the table and Jeff and I said the things that we loved most about each of our children. Because it was Kid's Day. They beamed as we talked about each of them. It is so good for them to hear. To hear that Brooks is loving and full of joy, to hear that Paige is nurturing and affectionate, to hear that Owen is responsible and passionate, and to hear that Jefffrey is kind and forgiving. It is good for them to hear the good things we see in them, the reasons we love each of them. It is good for us to say it too. To think about it and realize that we have these great kids and they are all different and have so many good qualities. Love these kids of mine. Happy Kid's Day!!
