15 years...

We went to the zoo with my friend Emily today. Together we had 7 kids to watch over and it was a little crazy, not the bad kind of crazy, but the can you believe that we actually have 7 kids and they belong to us kind of crazy. Fifteen years ago we drove to BYU together in my old Bronco, a little U-Haul in tow with all of our worldly posessions. Over the next few years we fell in and out of love with various boys, we cried, we laughed, we called each other bad names, we made up, we stayed up late and woke up later. We lived life. And then I left for New York for 18 months and Emily fell in love for good. We were both happy. She was there when I got home and now there were husbands and babies and life was more complicated than it had been. But in a good way. Now the boys we loved didn't change, but we still cried and laughed. We didn't waste time on the bad names, but we still stayed up late, talking and then talking some more. And here we are 15 years later sitting on a bench, watching our children play. Owen and Tyson pop their heads up out of a log on the playground. Another little boy tries to push Tyson and Owen says to him, "Hey, you don't do that to him, he's my friend." I smile. 15 years of friendship has brought us here.
