A Very Merry Un-Birthday

Paige's birthday party was today. We went with the Alice in Wonderland theme because, well, why wouldn't we? She decided a tea party would be perfect. I had to agree. All the little girls came dressed up in their tea party best. Paige donned her Alice dress. So did Isabelle. I could eat those two girls up. They all made necklaces and played pin the tail on the cheshire cat. (Are you impressed with my mad drawing skills?) And then they sat down and ate cake and drank "tea" and told jokes and laughed themselves silly. They could have stayed there all day, stuffing themselves full of cake and candy. But alas, there were presents to be opened and Paige is not a patient girl. So, she opened. They all oohed and aahed on cue. And then they got down to the serious business of play. Kacie was dying to fly the kite she gave Paige and Amelia couldn't wait for her to tear open the dolly she bought. All too soon the wrapping paper subsided and the doorbell began to ring. Jeffrey passed out the favors. Paige said her goodbyes. Then they all gathered in a huddle to check out this and tear open that. Paige and Isabelle painted their fingernails pink. Lexi and the boys played a board game. Brooks tried to get in on the action wherever he could. I breathed a big sigh of relief and loaded the dishwasher.

Jeff asked Paige later what her favorite part of the party was. She said she couldn't decide, it was all her favorite. And that is exactly how birthdays should be.
