A Work in Progress...

Owen in the front yard with his birthday crown on . He has the best primary teachers ever.
This is the right side of the house. The rock wall goes to the edge of the curbing on the driveway.

This is the park strip that we covered in flagstone and left part with bark and grasses

This is the rock retaining wall they built, it reduced the grade by at least one foot.

This is the front of the flower bed where we put a semi-circle of flagstone, it's hard to see.
This has literally been a work in progress. We have been in our house for 3 years and have had flooding issues for almost that long. Our builder came in 2 summers ago and put a french drain in the back of the yard and although it alleviated some of the flooding in our basement, it did not stop it entirely. So, they came and did some testing and decided the only solution was to put a perimeter drain in around the house. The entire house. This may not sound like a big deal, but it was, a REALLY big deal. They came in the first of July and began to dig and we ended up with about a 15 foot trench around the house while they dug it out deep enough to make the drain effective. The excavation didn't take so long, only about a week, but putting the house back together has taken considerably longer. They had to rip out our front steps, our driveway, our back porch, all of our landscaping, grass, etc. So we have been living in a big dirty mess of a yard for the past two months without a driveway and I was starting to wonder if it would ever get back to what it was. Two months is a long time to be patient, especially for a girl who has NO patience. But this week things finally started to happen. We decided to make some improvements since we were starting from scratch again and put in some rock and different plants, etc. Overall, the whole process has been a big pain in the butt. On the upside though, it is almost over (we get sod on Tuesday and that is the last step) and I think the yard looks better than it did before. And hopefully the drain will actually work this time and we won't have anymore flooding. I can always dream...

So it's not just my imagination. It is different. Well, it looks great. One day this too will be a distant memory, right?! :0) Hang in there. I think you'll get to enjoy it for a while before it's covered in snow. I'm not helping. Sorry.

Seriously...it's looking great!
